All-- I normally would not offer this kind of story, but my sister was one of his caretakers at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Even as his illness became more pronounced, he remained generous with his autographs and friendships. news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080211/ap_en_mo/obit_scheiderAs you know, he faced the fish and lived. Unfortunately, he was forced to face multiple myeloma and wasn't so successful. One of these years, we will beat cancer. --t.

Tricia:
Thanks for the post. Scheider seems to have been a decent chap. He always struck me as being an honest actor, very believable in a variety of roles. As Dreyfuss says, a pro.

He was great in that movie about driving a truckful of dynamite across the Andes(?). Very suspenseful.
Also he was great as Bob Fosse in a bio about him.

I had totally forgotten about All That Jazz! He was magnificent! My sister was at work when Scheider died--like any other job in medicine, one does become immune to tragedy--and she's taking this really hard.

His performance in All That Jazz was nothing less than gifted. He was always one of my favorites. Rest in peace.
