And it appears I also missed Elisabeth being awarded the Medal of Honor.
Elisabeth, thank you for all you have contributed to the boards and for helping so many people offline!

I saw the announcements and didn't want to blow my own horn (toot toot)--again let's make it clear:
It's not what you know . . . but how much you post.
But I'll blow Elisabeth's horn: Congratulations on one of the best and most adult posters on this forum.

Ditto what Crazy said!
Elisabeth -- What did you think of The Queen?
I loved the scenery and fell in love with Scotland. I came away with a much warmer feeling towards Elizabeth, but some friends have said they thought it was far too nasty towards the Royals. I'd be interested in your view of it.

Diane,
I'm ashamed to say I haven't seen it yet! I very seldom seem to get out to the movies. (Every week I look at the local listings, every week I plan to go, but something always comes up and I fail.) It's still around, I think, so I may yet catch it; but I may have to wait for the DVD.
From what I've heard and the few clips I've seen, it sounds as if it's reasonably fair and avoids caricature ... and the machless Mirren will deserve every award she gets for it. (She's just won the BAFTA for Best Actress -- the UK equivalent of the Oscars -- and must be a short-odds favourite for the real thing, by all accounts.)
Glad you enjoyed it, anyway!

We don't often go to the movies either and, when we do, we usually go to a tiny local theater. Chuck and I took my mom to see The Queen, and there was just one other woman in the theater. I don't know how they stay in business with all of the multiplexes around.
If you see it, I hope you enjoy it!
