Well, I've got to jump in on this Orel Hersheiser thing. Even though I am a Padre fan, since I live down here, I was a huge Hersheiser fan. I think the season where he beat the Oakland A's fearsome lineup of hitters was one of the greatest feats of pitching I've ever seen. And he was a man of real class. Great pitcher, class act. He set the scoreless inning record against the Pads. Went 10 innings in a 0-0 game. I want to say Keith Moreland was his record-breaking out.

Crab:
True Norma was originally traded to the Cubs from Boston then he signed with LA recently.
And who can forget Curt Gibson and his famous "walking wounded" home run to win a series game against Oakland?
And Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax . . . a powerful 1-2 punch . . . especially Drysdale who would just as soon throw at you as strike you out!

Oh, I can't ever forget what Gibson did. Every chance I get, I watch the footage of that at-bat. One of those "if you put this in a movie, no one would believe it" moments.
I wasn't around for Koufax and Drysdale. I do have a Drysdale card, though. One of my prized possessions. Mom got it for me when I came out of surgery years ago, though she promised me a Koufax. Couldn't find one that wasn't 100 bucks or more, though. But she more than made it up to me when, years later, she came home from an estate sale with a ball signed by Mickey Mantle, Billy Williams, Ken Boyer, Tony Conigliaro and Brooks Robinson.

I guess I'm showing my age . . . as a kid I remember Koufax and Drysdale pitching and saw some of their games on TV. Of course Drysdale later went on to do color analysts for the networks and Koufax retired early because of arm problems . . . but for a 4-5 year period he was untouchable!
If only I had kept all my baseball cards from the 50-early 60s. I had shoeboxes of them, probably worth unteen thousands!

Hey, who's having a baseball discussion without moi? I just had to suffer through another blowout of my beloved Cubbies ... still no Wood or Prior in sight and it's gonna be a long spring until DLee returns. Drat!
My favorite Dodger players: Fernando, Ron Cey, and Mike Scoscia ...

Okay, since I started this thread, it's time for me to wade in. El Crab and I have had some monumental "discussions," with me being a lowly long-suffering Padre fan. I at times have been a Dodger fan, but I guess my loyalty must lie with my hometown Padres. As for the 2006 baseball season? Can't wait for the football season to start!
