Frank, let's see if we can't help reduce the size a bit. First, if you don't have a graphics editing program to do the basics, a very nice free one is available at this site: www.irfanview.com/I have it on my own PC and use it for resizing, etc. of photos. All you have to ensure that you do is BEFORE you do any changes, do a "Save As" operation and rename the photo. I have always used an underscore number after the original name. That way, when you screw up, and believe me, you will screw up a photo (take if from experience!), you still have the original. Then click on the "Image" drop-down box and select "Resize/Resample". That will pull up a small menu where you either select the pixels or the percentage you wish to reduce (or increase) the photo size by. Hey, you can get all your pictures up here. Great idea Diane! Be good all, Billy

Frank, this is a smaller image...60% smaller. You will have to use a bit of trial and error to get it perfect but at least you see it works. Billy

Billy, I love it in B&W, too. I also endorse Irfanview; it's a great program and, best of all, it's free. (And wasn't this board your idea?)
Bubba, I'm curious about the first photo that you linked to in your initial message. It's of a monument and (perhaps) a grave marker. Where and what are those?
If you want to display the bridge photo from your photo service, simply adjust the size, upload it to your service, and do what you did before. Then you can remove my comments (sorry again for the intrusion) and the photo that's on the LBHA server.
Great photos!
Diane

Never mind about my last question. I saw the next thread.

Billy and all, please bear with me. There's going to be some trial and error. And thanks to you and Diane for resizing it for me. The steel bridge is over the Platte River a mile or two from the Ft. Laramie grounds. I can't remember the year it was built, but I think there is a sign there saying it is the steel bridge that Crook crossed, I think in 1876.

And, Diane, the marker headstone I posted is in present day Custer City. The marker is for a trooper named Pommer. The larger monument indicates it was Custer's headquarters camp during his 1874 Black Hills Expedition. The picture was taken, along with others, during the LBHA seminar in Rapid City last year on the tour with Paul Horstad, taking us to spots where he photographed his then and now photos of Custer's Expedition in his book "Exploring With Custer," a wonderful book.

Bubba, thanks for the ID on the photo. I didn't go on that field trip because I stayed behind to get the auction ready. I agree that Paul Horstad's book is excellent. It's a beauty.

Billy is right, always make sure you protect your original image. I would suggest to resize the photo to less than 200kb, I like to get them around 60 to 100kb max for posting.
To check this, right click on your image and click on properties and you will see the file size.
i.e. 75000 = 75kb and so on.
This size image loads fanster and is a good viewable size on message boards.
