Here is a view from the hilltop of the area where Reno and his command retreated from the valley floorIf you will notice the upper left of the photo where the crossroads and the red looking building (formerly the Reno Benteen Battlefield Museum) is located.....This was the area where Reno's Battalion skirmished. The line extended across the present Interstate to the west. The retreat route to the hilltop was back across through the timbers and up this ravine to reach the hilltop defensive positionA little closer view of the river crossing at the foot of the ravine as seen through a 300mm lens

Not to distract from the many amazing photos and a little off topic . . .
But it always amazes me to see "development" that has taken place since certain historical events occurred.
In the background would have been the Indian village . . . and beyond a wilderness known only to the Indians and a few frontiersmen.
It is an analogy of the very reasons why the Battle of the LBH took place.
