:oIn one of my books on the Custer battle, it shows a photo of one of the tombstones and the inscription says: J. J. Crittenden, 1st Lt., 20th infantry, fell here, June 25, 1876. I was under the impression that none of the infantry reached the battle field until the 27th because they were with & under the command of Gibbon & Terry who were supposed to team up with Custer's command on the 26th, but were a day late & didn't make it until after the battle, on the 27th of June. What's the "staight skinny' on this? Are there any known photographs of him in existance? Thanks for the quick responce answer, now my curiosity is satisfied !!

Lt. Crittenden was on detached duty with the 7th Cavalry, Company L. He was "on loan" if you will due to a shortage of officers.
