HOME FOB AMBITIOUS GIRLS.
Memorial Which Widow of Gen. Custer Will Erect to Him.
New York Jan 31
The memorial which Mrs Elizabeth Custer, widow of Gen George Custer, the Indian fighter killed in the Little Big Horn massacre, will erect to her husband at Bronzville(sic), a suburb of this city, will take the shape of a home for ambitious girls according to the announcement made by Mrs Custer last night. Mrs Custer said that as long as she lived she would act as a chaperon for the home to which she desires to attract girls ambitious enough to desire to help themselves but who have not sufficient means to do so. Nominal fees will be charged for entrance to he home so that those who take advantage of its privileges may not feel they are dependent. Work on the building will be started this spring.

Ron:
I was being facetious. I'm still waiting for people to jump in to show that she was going to name the home "The General Custer, Bless Him Forever, Home For......" where entrants had to pledge to write at least one glowing tribute to the General each year of their future lives, to tithe ten percent of their future earnings to Libbie, and to chip in for the payment of hired assassins to do in anyone with the temerity to dis her late husband.
Did you know that her books were all ghost written by the General?. That may be where the term originated. I have this directly from the shade of Benny Hodgson.

Why does 'home for ambitious girls' sound so scary? And, why does Libbie for a chaperon sound bizarre somehow?

Hell ... at the risk of pissing off the True Blue of the Always-Dedicated/pro-Custer LBHA General Membership, I was gonna say that the only charity Libbie donated to was that of her own ...! Of course, I know better than to drag the Custer Widow's Fine Name in the mud ....
