This is a known photo [the B&W photo] of 2Lt Jonathan Williams Biddle, 7th Cavalry killed fighting the Nez Perce, received the MOH posthumously. Appointed 2Lt 7th Cavalry on Aug 31, 1876. I think Biddle is the officer on the back row, left side as you view the photograph posted earlier on the "More Photo Questions..." thread. Walt

This is a known photograph of John Chowning Gresham compared to the Jr. Officer Photographs. Note the ears, nose, eyes. Comments? Walt

Walt, regarding Biddle, I suggested it might be him a few weeks ago. See page 5, his photo is posted.

Walt, Yes I think you have it on Biddle - another of the group ID'd. Well done! I passed on Steve's earlier Biddle ID, but seeing the pictures adjacent clinches it I think.
Not so sure about the Gresham ID. I agree with you about the unusual earlobe similarity, but the chin on the group photo officer seems altogether wider and squarer compared to the somewhat weak chin of Gresham's West Point photograph.
Regards, George

GAC; I think you're right. His chin is wider. Steve, sorry, didn't see your posting on Biddle.

You guys are great on these photos.
Last year, there was a photograph of Biddle on ebay, showing him dressed in rough buckskins with a rifle. The person selling it claimed it was once owned by a Biddle relative as indicated by a notation on the back of the cabinet card. I didn't bid on it and, stupidly, forgot to even print it out!

John; Too bad, that would have been an excellent pic.

Walt, I don't think that's Gresham. My money is on Hugh Scott. See if you can muster up a photo of him as a cadet. The only photos I can find of him are as an older general.
