MILE 134: KENTUCK KNOB Drive south four miles on Route 381, turn right onto Route 2010, and after 1.5 miles take a left onto the Chalk Hill/Ohiopyle Road. Almost immediately on the left is Kentuck Knob, a [Frank Lloyd] Wright Usonian house, far less spectacular than Fallingwater but still a gem designed with Wright’s trademark ingenuity. The present owner, Peter Palumbo, a wealthy English baron, allows docent-led tours. The surprise is the contrast between his pack-rat style and Wright’s minimalism. Every surface is crowded; John Lennon drawings are cheek by jowl with Little Big Horn bullets, dinosaur bones, and photos of the owner with Princess Diana, Sarah Ferguson’s children and Margaret Thatcher [emphasis added].
