Marcus Reno was the last commanding officer of Fort Abercrombie. Here's an excerpt from an article about the planned interpretive center: Officials here broke ground Friday [June 22, 2007] for a $1.3 million interpretive center at the Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site.
The 3,800-square-foot center will include an exhibit gallery about the history of Fort Abercrombie, a museum store, an observation deck and office space.
The building will incorporate some of the fort’s features, including a central “blockhouse” section modeled after the blockhouses that helped defend the site.
It will be just outside the palisade on the northwest corner of the fort site.
Construction will begin in the next few weeks and is expected to be complete by the end of the year, said Chris Johnson of the State Historical Society of North Dakota. A grand opening is planned for May. Article: www.in-forum.com/News/articles/169687
