Fort Hays State Historic SiteGenerals George A. Custer, Nelson Miles and Philip Sheridan, Major Reno, William "Buffalo Bill" Cody and James B. "Wild Bill" Hickok are part of the history of this outpost on a military trail. Established in 1865 in the land of Cheyenne and Arapaho, Fort Hays protected railroad workers and travelers on the Smoky Hill Trail. Enjoy the military items and photographs at the visitor center. 1472 Highway 183 Alt in Hays, Kansas, 785-625-6812 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Tuesday - Saturday 1:00 - 5:00 p.m., Sunday - Monday Admission: $3.00 adults; $2.00 seniors and students (K-12, college) The site has a Museum Store and is ADA accessible. Last time I was in Hays, a Thunderstorm the size of Montana hit the area. Watched itcome over on the news and weather channel -- hurricane force winds, hail, lightning, real wrath of God stuff.
Wuh-oh Wotta storm.
