I just recieved my first copy of the History Channel magazine. In it there is a two page story entitled, 'Where the 7th Fell' not very much new here except a quote by Ken Woody, "America was expanding, with the Indians being put on reservations. Then there's Custer himself, reckless and successful.." and then this. "Custer was a bad guy."
As I remember right these kind of statements got several other park personnel removed from the LBH battlefield. (Incompetence is not a reason for firing in the government)
I don't believe it is up to park personnel to proclaim either side 'bad,'
Unbelievable.

I should have added that Ken Woody is chief interpretation at the battlefield.

Scout:
Park employees have been spreading misinformation/opinions and distortions for years. It seems to have only gotten worse, judging from this example [whatever one's views of Custer might be]. Thanks for the post.

As I've told Scout privately, I very much hope that the quote, "Custer was a bad guy," was taken out of context. Here is the whole paragraph (written by Greg Breining): But over time perceptions of Custer changed. By the Vietnam War, members of the armed forces and Indian fighters of the past were not so revered. "Custer was a bad guy," Woody says; the 1970 movie Little Big Man presents Custer as a lunatic. As attitudes changed, so did the portrayal of the monument. In 1991 Congress changed the name and ordered the construction of an Indian Memorial, dedicated in 2003. Woody could have meant the perception of Custer during the Vietnam era, not his own perception. For the sake of balanced interpretation at the battlefield, let's hope so.

I might add that the context of the statement is questionable. He might be talking about the 'Little Big Man' movie but the writer has conveniently twisted the comment to fit his viewpoint.(I'm hopefully speculating) I have caught a number of political staements the History Channel has made that were at best unfactual...blatantly so. They were strictly made for PC purposes only. I thought history was suppose to be as factual as it can be when presented. If this is true Woody should be po'd.

And then we have the sad story of Tigger the Tiger punching a little kid . . . what is wrong with park employees?

I'll probably get arrested for mental child abuse, but I have to confess that I stuck my tongue out at a very obnoxious little girl today. She was so shocked it shut her up, which is what I wanted. Gosh, that felt good!

You found me out! ;D
What's this about moving to the Palmetto state? Aren't we southern enough for you?

"... blue or brown ice..."? I just noticed! Unless you count personalities, then you just have ice. (That does not, repeat, not count you... or "clw," for that matter.)
As for the Palmetto State... it's a possibility. I have a brother there (not that that bum would make the difference, but...). Besides, I think it is even closer to you!
Best wishes, Fred.

Probably so. I can drive to South Carolina in a day, but you -- always the difficult one ;D -- require two.
The blue and brown ice goes back to DC and Markland teasing each other about planes dumping their nasty ice cubes over Kansas. I guess I'd better get another signature line!

Moon Goddess--
I won't even bring that up to my wife! Wait 'til you hear that dissertation about the Cornflower State!
Best wishes, Fred.

Re: Tigger . . .
It appears the kid was doing "something" behind Tigger's back. Pinching? If I was the Tigger . . . I'd give him a good one, too!
And the kid's father is all over TV . . . can you say law suit?
Of course the employee playing Tigger had another run in with a child prior to this one. What lurks behind those costumes?
