I am confident that at least 98% of the people here have seen (been subjected to?) the film ‘Custer of the West’ starring Robert Shaw.
Within the scene in which Custer attends Sheridan’s party in Washington, there is a song and dance troupe performing in the background. Can anyone tell me the name of the song they are singing? It certainly seems to be a piece of authentic period music. Perhaps the most authentic thing in the entire film.
The elusive answer to this question has haunted me for many years and has now driven me to desperate measures. I have locked a very, very cute little puppy named ‘Mr. Muffin’ in a sealed box with a limited amount of air to breathe. I will release it upon learning the answer to my question.
Please. Can anyone save Mr. Muffin?

I'd like to help you out, Michael. Which way did you come in?
If anyone watches that movie in order to save Mr.Muffin, you will have more than one dead body on your conscience, you heartless beast. I'll have the ASPCA* on you!!!
Gordie, if I knew the lyrics, they would appear here...........................

It'll take a lot more than a poor, defenseless critter to make me watch that piece of malarkey! Sorry, Mr. Muffin: you're about to join GAC in Rock and Roll Heaven!

AH HA!
Well, IBHDAN, looks like you got Mr. Muffin off the hook. The song listed as ‘Sally My Love’ appears to be the one I have searched for. Thanks a million.
True to my word, I set Mr. Muffin free from the box and the little buger immediately bit me on the ankle. How’s that for gratitude?
Just how I never before found the site you linked me too - I haven’t a clue. Again, thanks a million.

Is it a FLARING nostril? - don't forget the nasal hair!!!
Gordie, the sun is sinking low, Lorena, frost is where the flowers have been.................
PS There are some sources that indicate that Bouyer was not wearing a calf-skin vest that day, but a newly-acquired buckskin [or doeskin] hunting shirt, which he claimed to have found while out scouting. If that calf-skin vest you mentioned was associated with Bouyer.

A nostril? If that's anywhere near as bad as writing a synopsis, then you have my complete sympathy ... there is nothing a fiction writer hates more!

Gordie and Tricia-
I'm with both of you. The one thing I couldn't do was watch the film again. I've never since cried as hard as I did after spending money to see it in the theater on its first run. Actually, I went into a state of shock after the stage show about Custer depicted in the movie, and was therefore only semi-conscious through the remainder of the film.

Gordie-
That's right 'a flaring nostril.
...and yes, the very same calf skin vest. Doe skin hunting shirt? Oh, that's just swell! Darn near perfect.
