From a website visitor: I am looking for a fairly new VHS produced by a company called "Reel Contacts" about the life of Crazy Horse. Douglas Ear Eagle of the Clown family and his brother are featured. The band is Miniconjou at Cheyenne River, South Dakota. If you know how she might obtain a copy, please reply.

www.reelcontact.com/The second DVD is due out this Friday, (April 13)......... PART TWO: "DEFENDING THE HOMELAND (PRIOR TO THE 1868 TREATY)." Currently in post production. The Crazy Horse family deals with the Oregon Trail, the Grattan Fight, Crazy Horse's hemblecha (visionquest) and the visions and medicines he received as a result, the story of how he received the black stone for his horse (a black and white paint who's name was "Inyan" or Rock) given to him by Horn Chips to put behind the HORSE's ear, the story of the first time he killed an enemy, the Platte River Bridge Fight and Battle of Red Buttes, December 6, 1866 battle near Fort Phil Kearney, the Fetterman Fight, the Wagon Box Fight, and the story of his relationships with Black Buffalo Woman and Black Shawl. Park Rangers, Educators, and Museum Curators from Fort Laramie National Historic Site, Fort Caspar Museum, Fort Phil Kearney State Historical Site, and Crazy Horse Memorial give the military side of the above stories and give added reference to some of the things Crazy Horse did not participate in but had a direct influence on him and the Lakota people such as the 1854 and 1868 Treaties, the 1866 treaty attempt by the government, and the Fleming Fight of 1853.

I've got the first DVD. I recommend it, although some of the family history conflicts with other accounts that I have read. But who is to say they that are not right?

I've just ordered it and I am also looking forward to it. I'll have to watch the first one again.
Have you read Kingsley Bray's book on CH?

Oh yes! And it's by far the most comprehensive work I've read on the subject. I was so pleased to see a post here by Kingsley Bray that maybe some of the geneology is being revaluated as a result of the DVD. The information that is coming from those like Floyd and Doug, the work LaDonna is doing on Standing Rock, is opening a whole new perspective on Indian history. Kingsley Bray has been a pioneer in terms of reconciling the two prespectives and I hope he continues that work. As I look deeper into history in general, it truly amazes me the way it gets distorted as the years pass. When you actually look at the source documents, you can see the spin history acquires over time. And with Indian history, even most of those source documents are written by white men -- including the census records that we all rely on. It needs more balance and the hour is late. The DVD should be here any day now! Haunting the mailbox.

Good news, clw. I thought there would be only two DVDs. I surely will order all parts. For me, who is living in Europe, there is little opportunity to talk directly with Native Americans (Summer 2001 was the last time I was able to travel through the U.S.). So I have to rely on books (you´re right, Kingsley Bray´s work is outstanding) and media like these DVDs. And thank God, this message board offers so much information by great people who share their vast knowledge… Hopefully more members like Ladonna will join here in the future to present NA history from their point of view.
Best wishes
Dietmar

The Crazy Horse authorized biography DVD's were reviewed in this months publication of "Whispering Wind". This four part set is a "must have" in my opinion as well as Kingsley Bray's master work! Just a note: The Whispering Wind edition included a picture or Crazy Horse that was drawn in 1934 by a "Mormon". It states that Julia Clown, grandmother of Don Red Thunder, described Crazy Horse's distinguishing facial scar and his feathers. "When she saw the sketch she cried and said that that is him."
The sketch is very interesting, a rough sketch, but one that I find believable (unlike that so called famous photo!) There's also a picture of Moses Clown (1891-1917), son of Julia and Amos Clown, who they claim "most resembles Crazy Horse in appearance." And, oddly enough, the photo actually resembles the sketch drawn by the Mormon!

The third part in 'The Authorized Biography of Crazy Horse and His Family Part Three: The Battle of the Little Bighorn" will finally be available April 21, 2008 at www.reelcontact.com. It continues the Crazy Horse family descendants telling of their family oral history as told by Crazy Horse's nephew's family Edward Clown. It covers from the time Crazy Horse's daughter was born until the final shot of the Battle of the Little Bighorn. John Doerner and Ken Woody from the Little Bighorn Battlefield NPS augment the family story with the government and military side of the operation. It also covers the finding of the cairns out on the battlefield in October 2005 which are slowly being memorialized with the new red marble markers.

Does anyone know when the 4th DVD is being released? The website just says "November" (I assume this year).
Also, does anyone know of any threads on this forum that discuss the series? I may be new to much of this, but I found the first three DVD's to be incredibly fascinating. I just couldn't find anyone talking about it.
