David Milch, creator of the Deadwood HBO series, in an online interview. This guy supposedly did a "ton" of research. See his comments about Custer's 1874 Black Hills expedition. The usual Custer For President bull. He also states that Custer supposedly said that the Black Hills had gold "by the handfuls". Custer didn't mention "gold by the handfuls", he actually downplayed the gold discovery. I guess he did his research by watching television and the movies. www.hbo.com/deadwood/behind/therealdeadwood.shtml

Yea, I'm starting to think that's where the History Channel gets their facts from...the movies and old westerns. I've heard some doozies on it. I guess since Milch has had success with Deadwood he is now a qualified historian. Some of these people go out of their way to embarrass themselves and do quite a good job at it. History as it should have been.
