Actually, this is not (from what I can see anyway) a GAC photo but I thought that the thread could be useful. While doing a Google trying to get straight in my mind whether Ft. Sedgwick was in Colorado Territory or Nebraska, I ran across this photo captioned, "General Custer inspecting the 27th Infantry Regiment." Since the 27th was formed from the 2nd battalion of the 18th Infantry as a result of the Army reorganization of 1866, this photo can be roughly dated as being between the latter part of 1866 and mid-1869 (assuming that it is really the 27th Infantry!). Now the question is, does anyone see GAC or know of any opportunity he would have had to inspect the troops?? Also note that the first platoon? on the right seems to be moving, yet, no blur! You Photo Shop fanatics have fun! www.kolchak.org/History/Indian%20Wars/images/GenCusterInspection.jpgBilly

Could this be at Leavenworth? The buildings look a bit too grand to be Riley or any of the frontier forts ...
