Here's a book I highly recommend for those of you who also read books on Civil War. 'BLACK FLAG' by Thomas Goodrich details the terrible slaughtering & murder on the Kansas Missouri border before & during the civil war. Thousands died and millions of dollars in property went up in smoke. Unfortunately, some people still hold Quantrill & Bloody Bill Anderson as some sort of patriots. They weren't. They were the 1860's version of mass murderers. Goodrich is an excellent writer and has written several books on the subject and he knows it well. This is another dark chapter in the history of our nation. A must read, excellent book.

Tom Goodrich is an LBHA member and the editor of the Kansas Journal of Military History. Thanks for the post, Scout. It reminded me that I want to order all of Tom's books! Here's a link to his website: www.blackflagtours.com/books.htm

Diane...I didn't know Tom belonged to the LBHA. Maybe there's a Custer book in him somewhere. He is a great writer and certaintly knows his subject. The book on Bloody Bill is also another recommended read. Recently visited the site where Quantrill was mortally wounded near Taylorsville, Ky.

One of Quantrill's descendants, Paul Quantrill, is a major league pitcher, currently with the San Diego Padres. His prior team for several years was the Yankees. A bit ironic, eh?

Ho, Scout! Thanks for the ink. Go figure....Black Flag was the easiest thing I ever did and it is the most popular (price had something to do with that--until recently it was $13). But yes, I DO know my subject and yes, I DO love it. The war out here (Kansas/Missery border) was not like the rest of the country. More like Vietnam or Irag. Upclose, ugly. A doc movie is being shot now on another book of mine--Bloody Dawn--and it should be very grim. After that film, the producers say they are moving on to Black Flag. These people have a film out now called Touched by Fire and I am a talking head. Check out Lonechimney.com or Lone Chimney Productions. Scout, if you have any questions or comments: mtgoodrich@aol.com Love hearing from you! Again, thanx for loving history! Tom Goodrich

Tom, thank's for the response.... I look forward to the documentary. It is one of the most overlooked events of the civil war. There are almost no movies on the subject other than RIDE WITH THE DEVIL and no documentaries that I know of. It was more like the killing fields of Cambodia than the American civil war. thanks for information on the movie and keep up the great work.
