| 1) "Crying for Scalps": St. George Stanley's Undiscovered Sioux War Narrative.
Artist and newspaper correspondent St. George Stanley accompanied General George Crook's military forces against the defiant Sioux and Cheyenne during much of May and June 1876, and was present for the battle of the Rosebud on June 17, just eight days before the battle of the Little Big Horn. Two years later he reminisced in a series of newspaper articles, recalling incidents of the campaign and relating some of the history of the Bozeman Trail. His account of this exciting and noteworthy time has been hidden away in an old Colorado newspaper, until now.

Fred posted the following on May 11 concerning Marc's books: I know Marc Abrams and if these books are anything like a few pictures he gave me and a couple of articles he wrote, these 2 books should be darned nice and a very nice addition to anyone's collection. When I am in NY over the summer, I am picking up a copy of each (as long as he is kind to me in his salutation).
Marc does nice work and his research is meticulous. My guess is that these are bankable items.
Best wishes, Fred.

Well known and respected historian Jerome Greene had the following to say about Crying for Scalps: St. George Stanley's Undiscovered Sioux War Narrative--
Many thanks for the signed copy of Crying for Scalps. It is clearly an important publication, an original account of Crook's second movement in 1876 through the Rosebud battle, and it includes much new material not only on that fight, but on Tongue River Heights (June 9), as well, besides much new descriptive data about the line of march through Wyoming, etc. All in all, this is the most exciting new information about the Great Sioux War that I've seen appear in quite a while, and you're to be congratulated for sleuthing it out and getting it into print. It's an extremely important little book, and your astute commentary makes it doubly useful. I was happy to finally learn the identity of the artist whose illustrations I've appreciated yet wondered about for all these years. I hope you do very well with the book, as it is a decided contribution to Great Sioux War literature. Again, many thanks for your work on this project and for the happy product that resulted.
================================================
Being an amateur historian I was greatly honored by those words. I do hope that some of you on this board will support such efforts. It is part of a much larger project but to be fair to those who purchase Crying for Scalps, won't be included in the former. It is a standalone book and just might become a very sought after collectable.
And I don't mind giving a plug for Michael Nunnally's American Indian Wars: A Chronology of Confrontations Between Native Peoples and Settlers and the United States Military, 1500s-1901. It is an excellent resource to have when writing about the Indian Wars and offers brief, easy to read summaries of numerous native/non-native military encounters.
