IN THE SHADOW OF WOUNDED KNEE: THE UNTOLD FINAL CHAPTER OF THE INDIANS WARS. By Roger Di Silvestro New book coming out at the end of November, telling the story of the death of Lt. Ned Casey, leader of a group of Cheyenne Indian scouts headquarterd at Fort Keogh. Casey was West Point grad around the time of the LBH and was beloved by the Cheyenne that he lead.
He was killed a few days after Wounded Knee by Plenty Horses, a Lakota Indian who then went to trial for murder, acquited as it was determined that a state of war existed between the Lakota and the U.S. Army, so it couldn't have been murder. Robert Utley wrote an article on this incident in "American Heritage" many years back and now it receives book length treatment. Looks promising.
