Hi, Markland, I bought this book ohh, more than a year ago, principally because I collect any item that contains plains ledger art, plus, given that the book concerns the battle we are all so interested in, I rather hoped that she might have unearthed some new insights into the battle. It is as you say very pricey, especially as it is a fairly slight book, however she does have some interesting things to say about a number of hidden clues in some of the artwork, pointing out several things I had overlooked, and I'm someone who pores over these drawings fairly regularly. On the other hand if you are not particularly interested in these artworks, { most of the images have appeared elsewhere, the majority of them in much better shape than they are reproduced here, the well known drawings by Red Horse for instance, } well, I'd have to say that there isn't that much that is new, to really warrant such an outlay. I was in correspondence with her for awhile, during which she told me that she was constantly frustrated by various petty bureaucrats in a number of museums and collections that held the some of drawings she wanted to use in the book, most them churlishly refusing her permission to reproduce them. To sum up, it was more than I would want to pay for such a book, on the other hand, I am glad that I have it for reference. Shan

Shan, thanks for the information. I reckon I will hold off and buy the book on Cheyenne ledger art I spotted over at the KS Historical Society the other week rather than this one.
Best of wishes,
Billy

Markland, Take a tip regarding buying that book and others like it, have a look on ABE.com Type in Cheyenne Ledger Art, or Plains Indian Ledger Art, and see what comes up. I have bought around a dozen books on the subject through them, sometimes at very reasonable prices. I have 3 such books that I plan to sell, when you own nearly thirty on the subject, there is bound to be a degree of replication and repetition. Should you be interested, you can contact me through my website, www.shanart.com rather than here. Shan

Shan, I will do that but will have to follow your advice as my knowledge of the subject is little-to-nothing...or in other words, an interested rookie.
