I received an e-mail from Steve Alexander this morning, informing me that Corky Reed died of a heart attack in his apartment in San Francisco several days ago. He apparently had not been well since his trip to the Little Big Horn in June. I believe Corky was 55.
Those who were on Corky's e-mail list know that he truly loved reenacting and found a lot of joy in his history pursuits. I was going through some old correspondence a few days ago and his business card fell to the floor. Perhaps that was Corky's good-bye to me.
No more Corkster on the Loose . . . how very, very sad.

I was one of the last to speak to my dear friend Corky before he left us for Fiddler's Green. His last email carried with it a definite premonition that his time here was coming to an end. A memorial service is being planned for Corky atop Weir Point this June when our reenactors converge once again at the LBH for anniversary weekend. It was Corky's wish to have his ashes dispersed from atop Weir Point, one of his favorite spots on the battlefield. Taps will be played and a toast made to "jolly good fellow" indeed. All his friends are invited to attend of course.

Diane & keogh_
I did not know Corky and I do not know you, but his family has my heartfelt sympathy for their loss and you have mine as well for your loss of a friend. Good friends are the rarest things we have.

Thanks BrokenSword, Corky didnt really have any close family left. His reenacting friends were his family in his later years. If you had the good fortune to know him, you would never forget him. He had a heart of gold and a great sense of humor. He at least had the good fortune to make it out to LBH one last time during last summer's reenactment.

I didn't know him for long enough, but even five minutes would have been a gift. An absolutely unforgettable character.

All,
I'm sorry that I didn't know him, he sounded like a wonderful person. I add my condolences to all those who knew and valued his friendship. I only know that 55 was too young!
