Does anyone know the origin of the peace medal he is wearing in later photos?

Is this our man, considerably later in life? Face doesn't look too similar and it's a fairly sparse photographic backdrop, which suggests it might be too early for this to be the case. Nah, it can't be...

Grahame, I think this could be Red Skirt, the Miniconjou, a man we discussed about in another thread. He sometimes was called Red Shirt also... by mistake, I think. I can´t remember where I read this... or perhaps I concluded it by myself

Bell portrait from 81, maybe? The person who originally asked about Red Shirt has some questions: Grahamew’s post No. 31 on the Red Shirt [thread] has a photo and he guesses it’s from Bell in ‘81. Can you ask where this copy of the picture comes from, and who is Bell?
The clothing Red Shirt wore in this photo matches the photo in DC when a delegation he was with (older chiefs and Red Shirt) met with the president.
I have read that this meeting was documented but do not recall the year.

Charles Milton Bell, photographer of many delegates from various tribes over the years. Had his own studio from 1873. I think this one is probably from 1880 when he went to Washington with Red Cloud. For Bell: www.nmnh.si.edu/naa/guide/_b2.htmScroll down a little.

Here's yet another photo of our man. As you can see, it was taken on a Wild West Show visit to London by Elliott and Fry of Baker Street. The National Portrait Gallery in London has a huge collection of Elliott and Fry's work and a reasonable percentage is online. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any of their photos of the Wild West Show. Perhaps they're not part of this collection.

One more Godkin photo of Red Shirt: For all you photo freaks like me: There are more Godkin pictures to find at SIRIS, even more than on the CD we ordered lately. They are not labeled as Godkin photographs, so you have to type the names of the individuals in. Look for: Red Clouds son (one of the earliest portrait of Jack I have seen) Red Dog Three Bears Three Stars (who is actually White Bird) Young Man afraid of his horses (actually ThreeStars) Captain Sword Red Eagle Fighting Cloud Shield Yankton Charlie and family Fighting Cloud Shield´s wife Susie Red Cloud´s daughter Pine Leaf White Bird´s daughter Red Dog´s daughter www.siris.si.edu/

Scout,
Ephriam was in the process of ordering photos from the Smithsonian. He invited us to share in the cost, and he bought an entire group of photos and sent us each a CD. What would have cost us individually over $500 cost us only $50 each.

Yet another photo of Red Shirt - this time with Cody's company somewhere in Italy, 1889/1890. Front row: No Neck, Rocky Bear, Black Heart, Georgie Duffy, Cody, Bessie Farrell, Annie Oakley, Red Shirt. Others in back row: Buck Taylor (fifth from right), Johnny Baker (fourth from right), Carter Couturier (?), advertising agent (second from right), Has No Horses (?) (far right).
