Looking for information on family of Mato Luta ( Reb Bear aka.. George Red bear, Sans Arc, Lakota Sioux) I have wife "Without Weapon") Trying to find out if he had a daughter by the name of "Wanbli Sunpagewin" I do not have english translation of her name, she lived on the Wood Mountain Reserve, Saskatchewan, Canada and in Ragina.

I have a book called"THEY NEVER SURRENDERED"by Ron Papandrea

Red Bear according to the book was a Lakota Sioux,was involved in the Metis resistenceof 1885,and was put on trial with another 4 for "treason-felony"and given a 3 year sentence.
But Red Bear died from his Battle wound before completing his 3 years.
The descendants of Red Bear live on today in the Lethbridge family,on Wood Mountain reservation.
Leonard Lethbridge gets a special thanks in the book.

I am trying to effectively translate your indian name. It is difficult because the words can mean different things depending upon the stress in certain syllables.

So far I belive that your Wanblie Sunpagewin translates into something like this.

wum-BLEE or wom-blee is the Lakota for.... eagle.
son is the word for.... grey

win is usually associated with the feminine. And is used in such words as daughter, and effeminate, lady etc. Rarely is it used alone.

The page is probably PAH-gee. Which translated means brown toes.

Translated as is:
Eagle, Grey, toes, brown, daughter. Would be my best guess.

The lakota usually transposed their words so we have:

Daughter brown toes grey eagle or
Grey eagles daughter, Brown toes.
etc....

The words have been badly transposed into their english equivalent. And am still trying to think of what else it could be. Will let you know..... Twomoons

I don't know what you people are talking about, but Wanbli Sunpagewin was my great great grandmother and mato luta was my great great great grandfather. Wanbli Sunpagewin translates to Crossed eagle quills. Also Mato Luta was Wanbli Sunpagewin (Julia Lethbridge) father and she had a son she named Mato Luta (Red Bear aka Jim Lethbridge). Jim Lethbridge died 1981 And Leonard lethbridge is my Opa (grandfather)and he married a begshisown (my oma) soo.... yeah... and they are still alive, I'm gonna go see him in a few weeks. I also think twomoons is wayyyy wrong.

and to that henri guy that messaged me, no i am not part dutch just because I use oma and opa, opa is also an indian word for wise owl and oma was just picked up when i was a little girl it kinda just went with opa. like grampa and gramma go together.
