I am seeking information on my grandfather John White Hawk, who was born at Standing Rock around 1859. He enlisted in the Army at Pine Ridge in 1892 and was discharged at Ft. Custer, MT in 3/1894. He reenlisted at Ft. Assiniboine, MT in 7/1894 and was discharged 11/1894. His 3rd enlistment was at Ft. Washaki, WY 8/1895 and discharged 4/1896. He was a scout and interpreter. Some of his fellow recruits from Pine Ridge were Alex Two Two, John Flat Iron, Howard Red Bear, Charging Eagle. In 1898 he attended the Indian Congress in Omaha, Neb. I have many letters addressing him as "Chief" or "Medicine Man". Any help would be greatly appreciated.
