Who was detailed as color sergeant for the regimental standard at the time of the Battle of Washita?
After Washita, Custer went on a patrol with about 45 officers and men. He wrote that "his standard bearer" was the the senior NCO of the detachment. Since Custer's personal battle flag does not appear in the Oct, 1868 photographs, I think it is likely that the standard the sergeant carried was the regimental standard. Are there any records to indicate who the sergeant was who was detailed to carry the regimental standard? The regimental standard does appear in the 1868 photos.
Are there records to indicate that another segeant was detailed to carry Custer's personal flag at any time during the Washits campaign?
When was John Vickory detailed to carry the regimental standard?
Who replaced him as standard bearer and when was the new standard bearer assigned?
I have recently read that 1st Sgt Garlick of Co. G, who was on leave at the time of the Custer Battle, was once the regimental standard bearer. Nichol's "Men With Custer" gives his height as 6'2". His height would seem to make him a likely candidate for the job. Are there any records that Garlick held the post?
