While reading CUSTER'S SOUTHERN OFFICER it brought up a question. Lt. George Wallace had a son who apparently dropped from all known records at the age of 21. How many descendants of LBH are known? There are of course, a number of Custer descendants are known, as well as descendants of Kellogg, Benteen, Reno, Godfrey. A large number of the privates sons & daughters are still around...has anybody talked with one? My own good friend Ron Pickard is related to Pvt. Edward Pickard, who survived the valley fight. I believe our own Diane Merkel has met Benteen's granddaughter. I would love to meet some of these people.

To the best of my knowledge, on the cavalry side, the only remaining person at the grandchild level is Mrs. Ethel Gray, the granddaughter of George and Annie Roberts Yates. Mrs. Gray was born two years after the death of Annie so, just as Maria Benteen Steves never knew Frederick Benteen, Mrs. Gray never knew her paternal grandparents. She is in her nineties and lives in New Jersey.
If we go to the great grandchild level, I'm sure there are many, and it would be interesting to compile a list.
Anyone out there a direct descendant?
