This is from a story in the 1963 Summer edition of Montana Western magazine, 'Last Rites for Lonesome Charley Reynolds', by John Gray.
Scout Charlie Reynolds is listed as being buried on the LBH battlefield, but according to the story Yellowstone Superintendent Philetus W. Norris claimed to have die-interred Reynolds in the summer of 1877 and buried him somewhere in Michigan.
The story says Norris sought out Fred Girard, who drew out a crude map for Norris to locate Reynolds body. Gray contended the story was real and Reynolds was re-buried by Norris in Michigan. Gray says Norris was taken to Reynolds death site by 'Yellowstone Jack' Barronette, who had been the guide for Col. Michael Sheridan when Sheridan and company dis-interred the officers of the seventh the same month.
Is Charlie Reynolds buried at the LBH? According to John Gray he's not buried there, but in Michigan.
Anyone heard this story.....or fable?
