From a website visitor:
I am doing extensive research on Brig. Gen. David L. Brainard (1856-1946), who was born in Norway, New York. He joined the cavalry in 1876 as a private, and was with Company L, Second Cavalry, at Little Muddy Creek in May 1877. As the surname is uncommon, I was wondering if David Brainard and George Brainard [7th Cav., Co. B] may have been related. Do you happen to know of any connections between these two gentlemen? I would be most grateful for any assistance.

No idea if this is helpful, but could either or both have been related to a Calvin A. Brainard -- born in Arkwright, Chatauqua Co., NY on August 8th 1846? He had quite an extensive Civil War record, and was Commander, GAR, Department of New York, in 1922. More details on suvcw.org/ny/gar/commanders/GARbrainard.htimThere's another Brainard/New York State/7th Cavalry connection. The officiating clergyman at Keogh's funeral in 1877, in Auburn, NY, was the Rev. Dr. John Brainard! (Pure coincidence, though, I think; he just happened to be the Rector in Auburn at the time. )
