I am searching for infomation on my grandfather John White Hawk. He was born around 1859 at Standing Rock. He joined the Army in Pine Ridge in 1892 and was discharged at Ft. Custer, MT in 3/1894. He rejoined again in 7/1894 at Ft. Assiniboine, MT and was discharged 11/1894. His 3rd enlistment was in Ft. Washakie, WY in 8/1895 and discharged 4/1896. He was a scout and interpreter. Some of his fellow recruits from Pine Ridge were John Flat Iron, Howard Red Bear, Alex Two Two and Charging Eagle. He was also a good friend of Frank Goings. Letters in my possession also refer to him as "Chief" and "Medicine Man". In 1898 he attended the Indian Congress in Omaha, Neb. His certificate is signed by W. A. Mener, Capt. 8th Infantry USA Officer in Charge and also by J. R. Wise, Indian Bureau Assistant Manager. If anyone has any information on John White Hawk I would greatly appreciate it being forwarded to me. Thanking you in advance Jack White Hawk.
