Hi Crzhrs
Well Custer still does not tell Benteen about any plan when he does send a message, merely that he is to come quick (but does not say where to) and bring packs (which is somewhat of a contradiction to the come quick).
He also uses as his channel of communication one of the poorest communicators in the regiment thereby making sure that not much other useful information could be imparted.
If Custer thought that Reno was still fighting on the valley floor (I have queried this elsewhere) then surely he would have realised that Benteen would go to Reno rather than to Custer as Reno's would be the first engagement that Benteen would see. However, it still seems that Custer was somehow waiting for Benteen before making a serious attack. It is all very hard to explain.
I suppose this is why LBH is such an enduring mystery because it is very hard to understand just what Custer was trying to achieve. The actions and intentions of Reno and Benteen are reasonably rational those of Custer are far less clear.
Regards
Mike
