I was looking something up and bumped into this - researchworks.oclc.org/archivegrid/collection/data/62320522 - Colored photographs of the frontier, 1877-1886 Huffman, L. A. (Laton Alton), 1854-1931 What caught my eye is: 'Near Custer's Hill, June 25, 1877, one year after the battle, shows eight unmarked graves, from the Battle of the Little Bighorn, labeled as the last men to fall; ' So, i've seen quite a few of Huffman's images but this isn't ringing any bells..... Any thoughts...

Thoughts... 1) I'd like to see the image!
2) "About a month after the battle some thirty Indians, including Red Hawk, went back to the battlefield and were looking over it. At the mouth of the ravine, they found 8 dead soldiers lying with their uniforms on and their guns and ammunition and everything by them."

So would I and notes relevant to it, which is unlikely since the photographers were bent to earning a crust, which Huffman did well. There's a story somewhere of him negotiating for an image of Gall, paying him and then having the Hunkpapa change his mind and demand the image destroyed with knife in hand. So, Huffman pulled out his pistol and the two squared up. It all calmed down and we have the images today. I don't know if that was a tale by Huffman, or true but the show had to go on. There is the image with the boot in the foreground - that might be it but it has markers and signs - unknown. It's a pain that the images aren't online (yet) but hopefully, one day, everything will be and we can see anything and everything whenever we wish. I'm wondering if the text describing the image is Huffman's or the curators..... and even then, the image actually may not have been by LAH but rather aquired by him from one of the other guys before. Maybe email Cornell but that will probably be billable..... what a lovely word. Billable..... the billables. Oh, are you billable. Is it billable. That's billable you know....
