I’d forgotten all about this forum being more focused on my main British military history interest - ‘The Defence Of Isandhlwana Camp 1879’. However, lately I’ve been watching this tv film constantly as I love the concept, trying to visualise something similar about the officer I study ‘Col. A.W. Durnford, RE’. The full version of this tv film is on YouTube, though the quality is very blurry, it is watchable if interested enough, based on the novel by Douglas C. Jones. It’d have been fantastic to see a big screen version made with modern actors and maybe with additional details to make the story fuller, by expanding its scope in the courtroom

I've read mixed things about the movie, but mostly positive things about the book. I for one think counterfactual history has its uses. When done correctly. All the best, Noggy

I very much believe that to study a subject completely, you must go beyond static studying and use comparative history/hypothetical scenarios to enhance your understanding, plus researching outside the main interest means you may be able to pursue aspects not covered fully in books solely about one subject. It opens up no end of possibilities and expands discussions, unfortunately, my fellow enthusiasts hated my use of it, as by introducing new approaches and areas of thought, they couldn’t respond with scripted replies as they hadn’t studied the same materials. It keeps studying and research fresh without going stale or repeating. I call it ‘Broken Rhythm’ based on Bruce Lee’s concept of breaking patterns, making questions and responses unexpected by others, si used to one train of thinking. I really enjoy this film, but if remade and dine right, it could compete with the likes of ‘Breaker Morant’ of which I have the excellent ‘Hero Or Villain’ poster on my wall
