I can understand that Benteen did not see to his troops properly so that he could get the lead. Then I wonder if Custer had him slow the pace down twice and send him to the left as a possible discipline for his disrespect. Did Benteen not seeing to his troops properly which would include distribution of ammunition, resupply any that had been used while on the scout or even water in canteens, condition of horses, oats to the horses as what was left could have been given to the animals, possibly knowing they were going into battle the troops could have lightened their load, packed salt and oats could have been let off animals, spare horseshoes may not have been needed, the taking off of blouses or even campaign hats, an encouraging word of what to expect, but no Benteen turned around and reported his troops as ready and got the advance. Then at Reno Hill his troops were the ones that had not made preparations for the next days battle and was most exposed. Position being what it was.

Beenteen was a racist as well, verified by Isiah dorman aftican american interpreter and indian scout. As i understand it.. benteen was a real son of a bitch
