Then I expect you also missed the fact that she inserted and underlined the word individual, which was not a part of the original post, her only requesting information on Company F. Guidance on where to find information on Company F was provided. I am not trying to impress you or her, or anyone else. I provided the information, then withdrew it because of your message. I was not trying to offend her or you, so what seemed offensive was withdrawn. Now there would have been no need for you to miss anything had you read it before you posted. Obviously you didn't, or your post would have said something on the order of --- Do you have any information on unit members, rather than the unit itself. I do not and would have gladly shared that with both you and her. My only intention here was to help this poster find what I thought she was looking for. THAT'S ALL. I think if you would read Montrose's posts concerning the fighting qualities and poor leadership of Company F, which are still up, you would conclude that he took her original message in the same manner I did, the company, not the people. Chuck, cut Diane some slack, she sufferers fools much better than the rest of us. Let her do it her way, I enjoy allowing a horses backsides to continue to post to themselves. If new folks have a problem let them tell us. They can ask for what they want, if they are not vague I will answer as bet I can. With all of the books at hand I can look it up.
Regards, Tom
Oh and I don't post for your benefit tubbie. It's for all the visitors and casual viewers. Someone has to call you clowns out on your agendas and lies.

At least someone knows which horses backside I was talking about. I'm surprised someone of your limited intelligence is able to read and form a coherent sentence. Good job tubbie.

Ian is referring to the sad fact that England defeated Australia by 169 runs in the first of a series of 5 "Test matches". I hope to see this reversed at some point! Ian Please pray the series doesn't end 1 to 0. I am not staying up to watch anything like that. First test was good attacking cricket and well worth watching. Cheers

Tom:
Very little to nonexistent in Cooke's 1862. I do not have a copy of Upton, but Montrose does, and I am sure he will comment if he sees this.
There was of course Rogers, and Sir John Moore did some writing on light Infantry which would include scouting. Maybe some others, I just don't know.
You do have a lot of near contemporary historical examples though with people like Mosby, White, and a few others.
Stuart did not seem to have a whole lot of problem obtaining information, and I know he used a lot of locals, like Stringfellow, and a few more that he greatly trusted to bring him timely information.

Upton and ceremony manual, than anything practical.
I would look at Callwell's Small War book for an example of how tacticians were thinking in this era. There are several books written by US officers that provide useful advice and lessons learned like the Vietnam B-52 guidebook.
I have posted links to everything I have referenced, and can do so again.
Evidently, the original poster for this thread wanted information on a specific person in F Co, vice information on the unit. I did not understand this. The answer is Fred's book, of course, and this information was contained in an answer within minutes of the original post.
Just got home tonight from the VA, can answer in more detail tomorrow. This is the second time I was discharged on a Saturday, it is a royal pain getting discharged and getting home on a weekend. Lol, and had to do it barefoot, they lost my shoes. Hope everyone had good Freedom from UK oppression holiday.

What I did tell WO is that I pulled out an old 78RPM of "The World Turned Upside Down" to mark that auspicious occasion. What I did not tell him is the flip side of that record was "The World Turned Right Side Up.
How in the name of Eric Shinseki did they manage to lose your shoes?

Beth,
Australia was not really a colony.
Think of it as one giant Alcatraz.....
But they used to be very good at cricket, but then their cricketers don't spend most of the summer eating sandwiches because rain has stopped play!

Sad that a country like Wales has never stood up for itself. They even fight for the UK. Says something about a population content to serve and bow down to another country's crown and government.

WO Typical ignorance. At least Australia is free from oppression. Is Wales a colony? Why do you sing God Save the Queen? Happy fighting for another country?

Onwards from Cardiff to the next Test at Lords, but the 3rd Test is at my favourite venue (Edgbaston in Birmingham).
