Yes, but I think he spread his affections around a little including Ney and Kellerman, as well as Murat. There is no doubt Georgie was a Napoleonic fan boy Beth I am the Napoleon of the West, the west side of my street. Here is a bit of trivia to join that of Will's that he posted earlier. No peeking Tom Who is credited with the invention of chewing gum. If you are asking me, I have no idea. I thought it was either the Mayans or Inca with their chicle. Beth

It is generally thought to be the Napoleon of the West himself, General Presidente Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, who cornered the chicle market in Old Mexico and was hawking his wares in New York City in the 1860's
And no I was not particularly asking you. It was an open question, but you know what chicle is and that is good enough for me.
Remember LBH is a diversion for me, The Alamo, and that which surrounds the story, is one of my few passions. I am a very passionate man as I enter into the decade of my geezerdom. Someone please pass the oxygen and where did I put my Depends.

I am going to have to brush up on my knowledge on the Alamo before we get together. I'm afraid it's a bit too much like the movie and TV conspiracy shows and not enough facts. The Alamo is a place I want to make sure I get to before we leave Texas. Not that we are planning to move but every place we live there is always a list of places i wish I had seen before I left. Heck there are places I wish I had seen in Iowa and live there for almost 40 years. Beth

It will be my great pleasure to escort you on a personally guided tour of that hallowed hall starting around say tenish in the AM on the Saturday I am there, followed by a magnificent Mexican luncheon at Mi Terra, and time permitting, yours not mine, a side trip to San Jose mission, to get an appreciation of what the Alamo of 36 looked like, and if you are an RC you can even take in five O'clock Mass as it is a most beautiful chapel and still an active parish in the Catholic Church. I am sure it will be decorated for Fiesta San Jacinto

I am sure it will be decorated for Fiesta San Jacinto It sounds good but we will probably skip the mass part. I was raised RC but now belong to the mass who check the 'none' box during a hospital stay. Just make sure there are places to rest. My leukemia can cause my energy to flag at times so I need to sit down. We can work out the details later but I am really looking forward to it. Beth

Like you Beth I was raised RC, I don't check the none box though, but I do understand. The Mass at San Jose is a beautiful experience, none box or no. We will accommodate your every requirement. Been there sort of so I understand that too.

Totally disagree that Custer would of gotten himself out if he could. Yes maybe in Civil war when he got in a bad situation he ran. But this is a much different GAC. With recently being crucified by Grant in front of the country. He was going bankrupt from bad decisions and to much risk. GAC said going into the battle it’s death or victory period. He just thought he could will the victory. GAC could if gotten out there early if he wanted. If he wanted out why would he be in there? Maybe all the other soliders didn’t want to be there including Tom. But GAC imagine going back with half of his crew the other half dead. Especially If he would of survived Terry would of said he disobeyed orders. It would of been a giant mess. And imo he knew it would be easier to die. I don’t mind playing risk or gamble 50-50 with your own life. But he put his younger family members and soliders at risk also. I can’t believe anyone could believe he would retreat at 36. Remember he knew this was his last big battle. His last victory before that was 10 year ago. He was all in period.
