True, his name was cleared by the military. Probably more out of mercy for his family than anything else. Forty eight years on though and his name is still muddied. No reinstatement can undo his actions nor reinvent his character or whitewash his behavior. The court of public opinion has yet to reinstate him.
There are parallels between him and Rose, both very sad, pathetic characters who have tried in vain to rewrite the history of their actions.

HR Reno is buried at the LBH battlefield cemetery. View AttachmentRegards AZ Ranger 87 years after his death he was reinterred at LBH. He died a disgrace and an embarrassment. Took many years for his family to get his name cleared somewhat and got his remains move to LBH. Still buried at LBH cemetery today. HR erred about it. HR at least has some links of value to look at. An opinion formed from an uniformed basis is worthless. Even worse is an opinion formed from misrepresentations and lies. AZ Ranger

Pete Rose actually played and at a level to be recognized in the hall of fame. There is nothing to rewrite about his success in playing baseball. The only opinion that matters is the military opinion in regards to clearing Reno. I am sure they could care less what you think. You're not part of the military decision making process. "On September 9, 1967, his remains were reinterred with honors (including a church ceremony in Billings, Montana and an eleven-gun salute at his gravesite) in the Custer National Cemetery, on the Little Bighorn battlefield. Reno was the only participant of the Little Bighorn battle to be buried with such honors at the cemetery named for his former commander."

Regards AZ Ranger There was no misrepresentation. Pete Rose, much like Reno, is a flawed character. He gambled on baseball, dodged taxes, spent time in jail, denied one of his children. He agreed to his permanent exclusion from baseball. Continued gambling after being exposed. He now wants to rewrite history. He can't hide his character and personal issues; much like Reno couldn't. Both are sad and pathetic individuals no matter how much lipstick they or others try to apply.

So.................. before people start pulling the pin from their hand grenade............... it is the same with Benteen, Custers, Terrys and on and on, plaster everything in 'it wasn't my fault' when it really, really was. The Reno reburial is as legitimate an area of interest as is Custer's. I'm waiting for his equine monument to be erected. A horse's head would do nicely.

Opinions of those with interest in Custer and his senior subordinates blame for events in 1876, are somewhat varied; however there are very odd things about the Reno saga and just as with Custer, Benteen. Terry, Sheridan, Crook, it can get very out of hand. The amount of research available is incredible and hugely interesting. Now Charles Kuhlman went and had a chat with Custer's ghost and the five companies were wiped out fighting their way from LSH, back towards Reno after Weir arrived on high ground where Custer could see him and believed the rest of his regiment were on the way. Very simple logic which time and modernity turns on its head. For the sake of Richard Fox, they fought all the way to Calhoun and Finley hills before giving up and falling back on LSH. Behold Kuhlman's Reno fight. Notice the ford. The one in the timber to which Reno retreated....... from his skirmish line. Hmmmm.... | So, everyone missed that. It's named as Good Ford........ Ford E, perhaps.

If such a good ford existed, why would Reno not have used it? Would have enabled a much more organized retreat of his command.

Oh my, Oh my.
Don't know if such a ford existed, but the river is crossable just about anyplace down there so ford or no what in the hell is the point? The thing that differentiates a ford from any place else along a river is access and egress.
So Reno retreats (and in this case that would be the proper word) across this might be ford, and he finds himself exposed on a ledge along the river bank, with some very high bluffs behind him. He has just given up some cover in the timber and now his back is literally to the wall. Don't you and duck boy ever think bonehead?

Between the suggested ford and the bluffs there is a 1/2 mile of open relatively flat ground. Leads to a coulee which leads directly to Weir Pt. Looks like a decent route.

Good point, why didn't Custer use it to support Reno. Then again, that is not a great map and does not make much sense..

Good point, why didn't Custer use it to support Reno. Then again, that is not a great map and does not make much sense.. The natural approach to the river and village was through MTC. A lot would depend on the state of Reno's command when GAC saw them. Perhaps Reno was still deployed in skirmish lines, holding his own against the NAs who had yet to really form to attack his position. The ford would bring GAC in below the village and he may have wanted to come in further north. Who really knows what he was thinking....

So your telling me Reno crosses the river. So I suppose the enemy does nothing like fire into Reno on the other side, while others are crossing up and down river before Reno can move.
That what you are telling me scarface
Military units need fords to cross while maintaining control. Indians don't need such luxuries, they can cross any old place.
So what you propose is charge surrounded on three side and a river in your back to surrounded on three side with a several hundred foot bluff in your back
If it was such a good alternative at the time, why didn't Reno take it. Was there more of the ammunition they were fast running out of on the other side?
I repose the question to you Don't you ever think?
Just remember that Reno with all his faults was still one hundred times better an officer than you will ever be, and he gets to rest in a National Cemetery along with other soldiers, that granted him by his country, and you never will. Thank God.
You are just like the rest of these ninnies and pretenders. You don't understand Newton applies to human kind, and think you are all smarter than the other guy who will always do what you want them to do, and will never do what you don't want them to do.
