Wayne Scott was my Great-Grandfather. As you can see by his obituary, it claims he scouted for Custer's Army 3 years before the massacre (Black Hills Expedition?). I have no other supporting documents or remaining family to ask for more info. If anyone has additional information to prove or disprove this, I would appreciate it ! Thanks! Attachments:

Hi, BullRider, and welcome to our boards! The roster of those on the 1874 Black Hills Expedition has been published, but I can't put my hands on it at the moment. If others have Ewert's Diary, edited by Carroll and Frost, the roster is in there. There is a new book coming out this month that will also have the roster -- some 1,000 names -- and looks as if it will be a beauty, Crossing the Plains with Custer: dakotaphoto.com/Pages/books.html

Hi Diane! Unfortunately there is no mention of Wayne Scott in the roster of the 7th on the Black Hills Expedition 1874, either as a trooper or as a scout. However, there are not any white scouts listed in Ewart anyway, only Indian. There are also about 120 teamsters and eighteen other civilians including two guides - Boston Custer and Charley Reynolds.
Regards
Ron

I'm sure his role was as a civilian, everything else I have shows no military service.
Thanks for checking on it for me!
