I just acquired a microfilm reader and printer. 3M 500 model with fully powered film rollers and older dry silver paper on a roll printer. A school cast off for $25.
Anyone have any of the 7th cav microfilm rolls available for loan or direct me to where I can get them through interlibrary loan to the county hysterical society and museum.
Guess I'd start with the early Kansas years from 66 to 71. An NPS fort historian advised me that the best item to look for for detail of daily life and other issues is to look at the post surgeons returns. The surgeons apparently document a lot of little stuff and particularly injuries. Not sure if the 7th had a post surgeon but I'd probably want the early years of Riley, Harker, Hays, Wallace, & maybe Zarah.
Thanks. bc

Thanks. bc BC, regarding the post returns, go to my site and download the document explaining post returns and what rolls they are on in the M617 series. freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~familyinformation/M617.pdfThe regimental returns have a descriptive booklet at this URL freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~familyinformation/M744.pdfThe M744 series deals with returns from regular army cavalry regiments and the rolls you are looking for are: roll 71-Sept. 1866-Dec. 1873 roll 72-1874-1881 roll 73-1882-1888 roll 74-1889-1896 Other rolls go on up to 1916 and can be found in the descriptive booklet. You may check with the KS State Historical Society and see if they have any of the rolls. At one time, two years ago, they had very reasonable rates for duplication of the film. That is how I got my Winners of the West microfilm rolls. If you decide to buy the regimental returns or any of the films from the National Archives, the cost is $65 per roll. Hint for the microfilm reader-go ahead and find you a new bulb. Best of wishes, Billy

BC, I forgot to mention that Ancestry has the cavalry regimental returns on-line. They are easier to read than the original microfilms and unless you find a deal, cheaper.

BC, Remember to register that microfilm reader and printer with Homeland Security as per USA Patriot Act H.R. 3162 Title IV subtitle 13 sec 417. Good luck
