Great Stuff, Billy; but don't allow yourself to get sidetracked from the PFH!!! Thanks for all your efforts. Gordie I haven't gotten too side-tracked, just slightly, errr...maybe more than slightly but not unusually so and not to the total avoidance of the PFH. Looking for dead soldiers is a joy after reading Conz's arrow dodging posts. Be good, Billy P.S. Now if I could only find that guy Scout is interested in life would be a hell of a lot more pleasant.

Not sure its been mentioned yet, but Taylor Barracks is a famous old post in downtown Louisville, KY, near the railroad station. It was one of several large staging and supply areas created during the Civil War, and was, I believe, the only post retained after the war by the U.S. Army.
I'm sure Libbie would have rather been stationed there than in Elizabethtown. <g>

Of course, I am assuming that the old barracks is still there in some form but you did say is. Billy

Billy No, sad to say I doubt any of the buildings in that area are from that period. If nothing else, the great flood of '37 would have removed any such wood structures down there. The post is still well known amongst Army history students, is all. It was a major recruiting and training center for many regiments of U.S. Colored Troops. I'll bet there are pics of it at the Ali museum downtown...it is a local center of African-American history. I can stop and and check. BTW, some of y'all may know that one of the country's finest arms museums is in Louisville...the Frazier. Incredible weaponry, and large Tower of London collection, and full sized cavalry manicans with horses from all ages throughout the multi-storied complex. There is even a small cavalry on the Plains exhibit. Clair
