I think Trish would love this. Thanks to Rod Thomas for sending it. Prepare yourself for this one - maybe with a Stoli martini or two.
Back in the days of the Soviet Union, the Soviet Red Army had an official choir composed of male soldiers and musicians. It still exists. The Red Army Choir performs throughout Russia to this day.
Now consider the Finnish rock band called The Leningrad Cowboys. A little while ago, they held a concert in Russia, in which - to the screaming applause of Russkie teen-agers - they got the Red Army Choir to join them on stage for a performance of "Sweet Home Alabama." In English. You couldn't make this up.
We're talking seriously off the wall here. Better have that Stoli ready when you watch it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lNFRLrP014

Well, that's..... hmm. Actually, I've heard far worse. It's the uniformed bass player that kills me. In any case, they sure look and sound like they're having fun, albeit the front row of the chorus has frozen smiles. Fortunately, the orange juice is fresh and the Stoli handy.
FWIW, I truly like Russian male chorus singing because they have lots of actual bass singers, and good ones. All the Orthodox nations seem to produce them more than we do. It truly adds a lot to intricate harmony when those notes are easily and skillfully hit. Not slamming us, but our military academy chorales, depending on the years of course, nearly always have baritones stretching down.
Rather the reverse for tenors and women singers. Till recently, the women in Russia's choruses went.....sharp a lot. Man, that can curdle water. In decades since the collapse, this has been offset by blonde women who make their tennis players look like they calved Grendel. Absolutely gorgeous and much better singers, a coincidence I hope.

Can't say, 'I was not warned.' No time for the orange juice - just pass the bottle and hold the straw.
I heard the Russian Army Choir, many years ago. Even if you are familiar with 'The Navy Hymn' you haven't truly heard it until you've heard this group's rendition.
'Sweet Home Alabama' with the 40-something deep voices of the Russian Army Choir, all singing 'Booo...hooo...ooo,' must be in the Bible somewhere as a sign of the end days.
M P.S. Anyone know where I can find a pair of those shoes?

No, but what style! I never thought of having the tips of my shoes match the top of my head. Now I have to figure out how to replicate bangs on my shoes and, of course, get glasses to match every outfit.

Rod Thomas just made my day - first smiles in a couple of days, actually. You're right, Diane, Trish would have loved it.
I dig those Go-Go dancers. Wunderschon [mit ein umlaut].
