Herman's Hermits (I know, haplessly pop) ... but Phillip's was The Troggs as well as the Animals--well, in the more off-the-beaten-path BI category. Of course, the Beatles will never be replaced in our dark, evil, Custer-hatin' hearts.
BTW--Has anyone noticed how many kids have never heard a Beatles' song on this season's American Idol? Absolutely freaking pathetic; it's like going through life never knowing Beethoven and Vivaldi. Yikes!
Two first albums: Help, the Beatles, and Jesus Christ Superstar, (now) Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and cast of thousands (introducing Yvonne Ellman).

Yikes! I remember when my son was about 12, we were driving in the car and Led Zeppelin's Kashmir came on the radio and he said, "Hey, they stole that song from Puff Daddy!"

The first 'big name' concert I attended was Peter and Gordon. My behavior was typical but embarrassing to reflect on at my current age. Mrs. Brown and Henery the 8th?

Thems is from Herman and The Hermits [or Herman's Hermits] featuring Peter Noone [sp?]. I'm sure that your behavior was properly disgraceful!!! Herman [Noone] was a lot cuter than either Peter or Gordon. Even grown women were seen to squeal and grow weak in the knees when he warbled. Last I saw of him, he was still cute, and I say that as a manly man who never cared much for that group.

Of course! Herman's Hermits -- I must have gotten my Peters mixed up. It's all a bit fuzzy, what with the screaming and fainting and all. It's all coming back now. Wasn't Peter Asher's (Peter and Gordon) sister hooked up with Paul McCartney somehow?

My mother loved 'erman and the 'ermits.
She also loved Randy and Rick Zerringer (?) better known as the McCoys - 'Hang on Sloopy', although not a British Invasion group. (Rick, by the way, changed his name to Derringer and did a couple of hard rock classics, well one anyway.)
Me? I bought Barry Sadler's album, 'Ballad of the Green Beanies.' What can I say? Mom liked to dance and I liked to march.
Shoulda seen the confused look on the guy at the check out counter when she bought those two albums and I bought mine plus the 'Music Man' soundtrack.
The first live concert I saw was Dick Clarke's Caravan of Stars. Bobby Vee sorta cussed me out at that one. Soured me on 'Teen Idols'.
My cousin and I snuck into the back lot at the Ringling Bros. Circus once and got caught by none other than Rick and David Nelson. David was there doing some shots for a movie he was making then. They were pretty cool guys. Treated us nicely and talked to us for several minutes. Didn't call the cops. Convinced us we probably shouldn't be there for our own safety. That was before the Bobby Vee incident. (I actually worked for the Ringling Bros. later in life. One season only - the 101th Edition of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey combined shows!)
Anyone seen Peter and Gordon lately? Whoa! They look like two miles of bad road. The short one - not so bad, but the tall one - looks to be on life-support.
I bet some here are asking, "What's an album?" Geez.

Tricia- "...Has anyone noticed how many kids have never heard a Beatles' song on this season's American Idol? Absolutely freaking pathetic; it's like going through life never knowing Beethoven and Vivaldi..."
My late son had a girlfriend once that got all excited to lean that Paul McCartney was, "...in a band before Wings!"

Yeah. Jane Asher - actress. They dated for a while. I had those walkin' talking teenie booper blues for her too. Couldn't complete with McCartney's money. Sigh.
Peter Asher was, for a long while, Linda Rondstat's music producer. Had the hots for her too. Ah, heck who DIDN'T I have the hots for?

Poor Poor Pitiful You!! We seem to have been leading parallel lives, Michael, at least to an extent.
My first concert was an All-Star contingent of black artists [one of two or three touring "companies" of the day, featuring a large orchestra and a whole slew of groups and individual performers. I recall Fats Domino, Chuck Berry and a girl group who might have been the Shirrelles. This would have been late 1955 or early 1956. My next one was Elvis in 1957 .
By the way, did you know that Rick Nelson was the only concert artist who performed without any supporting acts, besides Elvis? They were the only guys who could sell out large venues on their own.

Did you know that Paul McCartney wrote a song for Peter & Gordon called World Without Love. Paul & Jane were an item and apparently Jane asked Paul to write a song. I wonder how she got him to do that?
I remember when the single came out on a 45 and McCartney & Lennon did an intro about it.
If you have that 45 you can retire?
I recently saw Peter & Gordon on a PBS show about British Invasion Bands. Gordon looked like he arose from the dead, but they did sing like they hadn't been apart for umpteen years.
<Couldn't complete with McCartney's money. Sigh.>
Money has nothing to do with it.
