Plans by Chris Kortlander to sell the tiny town of Garryowen, next to Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, and his Elizabeth Bacon Custer Manuscript Archive have hit a major snag.
Kortlander is suing Heritage Auctions Inc. of Dallas, the Texas auction house that agreed to sell the historic properties, alleging breach of contract. Article: www.billingsgazette.net/articles/2008/04/18/news/state/45-artifacts.txt

Let's see...Kortlander is suing the Heritage Group...wasn't Nightengale suing him? Is that right? What's in the water at the LBH?

Heritage Auctions is countersuing Kortlander, and Jim May offered this additional bit of information: Gary Hendershott, Consignment Director at HAG, terminated his employment at Heritage on April 1, 2008 for their failure to market Garryowen and for their breach of Hendershott's contract. Hendershott filed a lawsuit against Heritage on April 3, 2008 citing the above in his complaint. I received this in the form of an email from Gary on April 20, 2008. I had been interviewing Gary and Chris Kortlander for my "Collecting Custer" column for the CBHMA Dispatch when this thing apparently blew up.
