Bob Reece, president of Friends of the Little Bighorn Battlefield, sent the word yesterday that Superintendent Cook will retire on June 2. I do not know Supt. Cook well but, when I have spoken with him or exchanged emails, I have been very impressed. He will be greatly missed by those who have had the pleasure of working with him.
Let's hope that, when the new superintendent is announced, the Custer Crazoids don't have their typical knee-JERK reaction.

I know nothing of NPS protocol but I think John Doerner would be an excellent superintendent.

Agreed! And there is precedence for the Chief Historian becoming the Superintendent.
