I'm going to cross-post this on the Wyoming board. Buffalo Bill used to audition acts for his Wild West show at its landmark Sheridan Inn, now 114 years old. The Bozeman Trail, a supply route for 1860s gold miners in Montana, ran along the eastern edge of the Big Horns. The Little Bighorn battle, where George Armstrong Custer died along with all his men, was fought to the north on the Crow Indian reservation. He seems to have had a penchant for towns named Sheridan. According to his version of the story, it was just outside Sheridan, Kansas, that he had his famous buffalo-hunting contest with Will Comstock to decide ownership of the "Buffalo Bill" name ...
