From a website visitor: I'm trying to locate the area where the Sibley Scout battle occurred in 1876. Would you happen to have any topographical map coordinates of the location?

Diane, if you take Highway 14 out of Sheridan and go through Ranchester up into the Big Horns, you'll come to Sibley Lake. Turn left at the Sibley Lake Turnoff, and within a couple hundred feet you'll see a marker noting that the Sibley Scout took place "in this general area." Terry C. Johnston wrote a great novel about the expedition that really gets you into the feeling of what these guys went through. I think they were attacked down near Ranchester and headed up into the mountains to escape, and then had to make their way back down the valley after fooling the Indians into thinking they were still holed up in the mountains by abandoning their horses and heading down on foot.

Thanks, Bubba! I knew one of you guys would know where it was.
If someone can map it, I'm sure the questioner would be very grateful.

Diane, great Google Earth map for the Sibley Scout, but could you provide me with the actual google map so I can take a look at the photos indicated by the blue circles? Or put me in touch with whoever posted this map? Thanks.
