All--
Two weeks ago, my younger brother, Tomas was sent home from work with what looked to be a cold. Saw the doctor, got some anti-biotics and that should have been that. A fortnight later, he's struggling for life itself. He's gone from the Pespi kid to one who desperately needs hydration.
My mother finally demanded some answers to her questions--today. It's past time to let this run its course. So, for the second time in a week, I'm heading to the ER--and I am terrified.
Thomas Arthur is like Custer, very enigmatic, but he works his personality through his rather severe mental retardation. And he's a Cubbie fan to boot .... only 42.
Please, please pray for him. He needs it. And I am beginning to wish we'd just skip the month of March.

Trish, Positive thoughts headed your way.
I got a call at 7am that my Mom was on her way to the hospital in an ambulance having fallen out of bed. My Dad found her and she didn't know where she was. It turned out to be an infection and dehydration. I saw her tonight and she's on the mend.
Hope the good luck rubs off on your family, too.
Ruth
P.S I'd just as soon skip March, too.

March has got to be the worst month of all: my grandmother died unexpectedly in 1977, a boyfriend of mine committed suicide--he shot himself in some nature preserve-in 1986, and of course, Phillip died March 1st ... and what would have been his 52nd birthday is/was on the 18th.
And now, my little bro ... but he's going to live. Yipee! Thanks for the concern--everybody!

All--
Tom was sent home today to recover. He's very, very weak but his oxygenation and kidneys have returned to normal levels. It's a step, though he won't be back at work until after Easter. He's reversed the curse.

Trish-
Can you tell us what was wrong? None of our business, of course, but I could swear I read about a similar mis-diagnosis a week or so ago. The symptoms sounded very familar, and I've been racking my brain to try and remember what the cause of the illness turned out to be.

He had pnuemonia in the lower part of his left lung. Now I had it over 12 years ago, and my x-ray was cloudy, but his was solid, solid white. The problem was worsened when my brother saw the doctor on Tuesday and wasn't given a chest x-ray, despite his cough. We really dodged a bullet. A couple of more days, and he would be counting his days. But we're gonna let go and let god when it comes to the family doctor .... and this is something that is going around LR this year. It hits kids and young adults: they are being put in the ICU and on resperators like crazy.
So, his symptoms were: cough, body tempurature at 85 degrees, oxygenation at 83%, creotine levels rising, and no urination for days. He was sent home with some Levaquin, which started all of my current physical problems though it now looks to be strickly neurological--and scary--in nature.
