For those who had not remembered, December 21st marks the 140th anniversary of the Fetterman fight near Ft. Phil Kearny on December 21, 1866. As usual, they will be conducting tours, etc. of the battlefield. I am at this moment ignoring work and looking at the calendar and schemiing on how to break the happy news to the wife that I will be going. If someone notices what at first glance is reported to be a nuclear explosion in the Kansas City metro area, you can safely assume I have broken the news to her. It's not cast in stone that I am going but the weather looks acceptable, plenty of vacation time left and a little discretionary cash is available. Plus, as a side-benefit, I heard that there is another Indian Wars battlefield about an hour away. Here is the link for the Bozeman Trail/Ft. Phil Kearny Association: philkearny.vcn.com/Merry Christmas! Billy

Markland:
The Bill Tallbull version of the Fetterman Fight is very good. It gives a view from the Indians side, plus much info on Plains Indian culture and way of life.

Billy:
I'm glad you are going to check the weather. Do you really want to take a chance on northern Wyoming in December? As I recall, Portugee Phillips ran into some rather nasty stuff.

PS Thanks for the post on cavalry horse and trooper training on another thread.
