Fred,
Unfortunately, I had 7 years of Physics, BUT I always slept in History Class!!! That may be my downfall!?!? Still.....I'm curious about Ft. Dearborn, it's only about 17 miles away!?!?!? --- Go Put Out A Fire!!!....Before Hurricane ADAM (If that's the first one named this year) hits the Gulf Coast!!!

My sister was the only one who went to N'western. But I got a free Rose Bowl/Disneyland trip out of it, so I can't complain.

Hello, I'm Ruth and I live just south of Helena, Montana. I don't remember not knowing about the Little Bighorn battle, since my father was a transplanted Custer buff from Lewistown, MT to Minneapolis, MN where I grew up. Custer, Indian Wars, and LBH were just a part of my childhood as were frequent trips west. I found these boards about a week ago while searching the web for LBH information. In a moment of outrageous extravagance I signed up for a tour "From Fort Phil Kearny to the Little Big Horn through the Eyes of Sitting Bull". It begins in Billings on June 9th and ends June 13th. The tour leaders are Ed Bearss and Neil Mangum. I'm really excited!!!! So I am frantically trying to refresh and expand my knowledge of that time span. This board has been a WEALTH of information. I am in awe of the amount of combined knowledge. When not speed reading LBH books, my husband and I run a small mushroom farm. It's full time for both of us with our son and 3 other neighbors as part-time pickers. My other interests are Civil War history, Yellowstone and geology. I hope to contribute what I can, but my keyboarding skills are abysmal and I share a dial up connection with 2 other internet addicts and a husband who occasionally likes to use the phone. Glad to be here. Ruth P.S. My son has a web site with photos of US coastal defense sites if anyone has an interest in that. sdphotos.org/

Hey Ruth "Ignimbrite," welcome to Never-Never Land (or is it NeverNeverLand?). And please do not get scared off by some of the insanity or the smoke-induced haze that hovers over some.
Best wishes, Fred.

Please, let us not start up again. No, the old high-school bromide does not apply in this case. And incidentally, I was not-- repeat, not-- referring to you. I thought maybe we had, if not buried, then at least dropped the hatchet.
Best wishes, Fred.

Fred: "I was not-- repeat, not-- referring to you."
Are you absolutely sure of this Fred? It wasn't all that long ago that you said:
"So here’s some advice from an old man whose careers (note the plural) have probably far transcended your silly little, trite existence. Take that putrefying stump that sits atop your shoulders and haul it off somewhere & stop bespawling us w/ your trash. Go to a site that more befits your moods & your laughable arrogance. Inhale some of the smoke enveloping the other pinhead who haunts this site from time to time. You deserve one another. He seems like an old besotted hippie left in the mud of some long-forgotten rock/ drug concert. You'd be right at home, crying in one another's laps. You'd enjoy the grovel. You both appear to be suffering from tympane, as the rot usually travels to the lower extremities as well. Haul it all off & dump it; maybe Scout and I will be able to find you near the remains of the “Far West.” And stop hiding behind the letter "q." I abhor cowards."
Now, just who's lying here? I ask you? And before you answer that, please try and remember this!
"This is becoming laughable. "I thought... this place didn't discriminate." Yeah, well, get over it; this place does discriminate. No one here likes a jerk or a liar & you have proven to be both. Why don't you go back & check out the first post you made on something I wrote? Then tell me who attacked whom. I didn't know you from Adam-- or in this case, Eve-- yet you went after me like I insulted your family heritage. I don't go after anyone unless they strike first. Your attack on me was driven by more than what I had posted, & I resent it. If you have something against me, then come forward, tell me what, show yourself, quit hiding behind a letter. You have a friend who is a former Navy SEAL? Bull! GAC is correct; you are a liar. No former SEAL worth his salt would even associate w/ a personality like you. What? did this diver friend drown? Please, give me a break!
Worse than a liar, you are a hypocrite as well. Read what you have written! Then, if you can stand it, look at yourself in the mirror & say you haven't started this whole mess. Go ahead, do it! Hah! It's a waste of time. And do me a favor. Leave CSS & West out of it. They happen to be friends. You're a member, go ahead, send them a personal message, ask them. I think the world of both of them. They ARE friends & 2 good guys. You're just too stupid to see it. Go ahead, ask them... I dare you."
Just to whom was you referring to when you said: "Inhale some of the smoke enveloping the other pinhead who haunts this site from time to time. You deserve one another. He seems like an old besotted hippie left in the mud of some long-forgotten rock/ drug concert. You'd be right at home, crying in one another's laps. You'd enjoy the grovel. You both appear to be suffering from tympane, as the rot usually travels to the lower extremities as well."
I think you owe this site an explanation and a correlation between the two statements. I didn't miss it. And i'm quite sure that other's didn't either. A lie Fred? For someone who proclaims, "No one here likes a jerk or a liar & you have proven to be both." In my correspondence with you here. I have shown nothing but respect with regards to the words I have chosen to reply to you with. Yet you have consistantly, like a "jerk" chosen reply with unkind, cruel and insulting words and remarks. Which by the way, you have offered no appology for. I can not respect someone who doesn't appologise for the cruel - indecent things that they have said to me. And as long as your final word on this is... "Let's get something straight here, "q." Any apologizing I have done-- or will do in the future-- is directed at the people on this board who I respect & whose valuable time is taken up by answering the noxious drivel you post." Then how can you expect me to just let everthing you said, "be dropped"?
Oh, and by the way Fred. I don't pretend to know who all of David's friends are. Please do in the future be careful who you make that challenge to though. I like Custerstillstands, and I consider him one of my cherished best friends. We may not agree on everything. But that doesn't mean, that I have to dislike him. And to be honest with you Fred. I think CSS is on to something. And his theories are alot closer to the truth than you think. "Drivel" Fred? We shall see. We shall see.

Ignimbrite, welcome. As you see, things get a little feisty at times, but basically a bunch of good, history-loving folks on the board. Your tour from Ft. Phil Kearny--one of my favorite places in the world--sounds like lots of fun. And led by Mangum? Who better? I meet a woman named Ruth in 1997 on a tour in Montana and Wyoming who lived in Montana, led horse trips in the mountains. Not you by any chance?

Thank goodness for the peacemakers! I should give you a separate category with lots of stars!
q, if you will remember, I e-mailed one of your other personalities around the beginning of the year with the specific purpose of telling you that Fred missed you very much and wished that you would return to the board. I join him in not understanding why you are constantly trying to start a battle with him.
There is one thing I know for sure about Fred: He is a straight shooter. If he says he was not referring to you in the reply above, I believe him. Lord knows, we've had enough people who would fit that description pass through these boards in recent months, so you shouldn't take such statements personally unless they are specifically directed at you.
Peace!

Thank you Diane.
"q," if you must know-- & at the risk of having the hammers of Thor descend upon my head from yet another direction-- I was only & specifically referring to our gloomy friend w/ the corresponding moniker; the one who seems to think we are all engaged in a latest version of Trivial Pursuit. Quite honestly-- & I am sure this will also open me to more opprobrium-- I have shot my last barb in this exchange. I would prefer not to go about digging for causes.
Best wishes to all, even the moody one, Fred.

Fred, my friend, I would respond to your posting if'n I knew what opprobrium meant. Back to my Funk & Wagnalls!
Oh, and Leyton, two weeks ago, My Padres were at the bottom of the barrel in the NL West. On behalf of all Padre fans, I'd like to thank your Cubbies for helping to catapult us to, at least temporarily, the top of the NL West!

Bubbabod--
0-7 ... just how awful can one kind-of-a-week be? But May will soon be over; that in itself should strike some fear in all Friars' fans ... but congrats on one helluva run!
