For you 'Lonesome Dove' fans...Larry McMurtry's 'Comanche Moon' mini-series is set for TV release this year. In my opinion 'Dove' and 'Streets of Laredo' are two excellent books and movies. That dosen't happen often. Hope lightning strikes a third time. Boy, can he write some nasty characters.

You know Scout, I have not seen either of those. I saw a couple of movies on AMC (I despise that channel; it used to be so much better until Cablevision bought it & screwed iy all up w/ their damned ads) w/ Robert Duvall. One was w/ Kevin Costner and the other was w/ Thomas Haden Church & those Oriental girls. Those were pretty good and I also liked a couple I have seen w/ Tom Selleck. My favorite was "Buffalo Soldiers" w/ Danny Glover-- I think that was a TBS or TNT production. Anything w/ soldiers is my cup of tea, one of the reasons I love-- and constantly watch-- the John Ford trilogy w/ John Wayne.
Maybe I should check out these others... (?)
Best wishes, Fred.

Fred:
Lonesome Dove is one of the best western movies [actually a mini-series] ever produced. You must watch it if you ever have the chance. The same advice applies to Streets of Laredo. BUT IT DOES NOT APPLY to Lonesome Dove, the Series, which came later with and from other people.
I am currently trying to educate my newly 7 year old grandson to the pleasures of Ford's trilogy. Have to go now - I see it's almost 1530 by my brand-new silver watch.

Fred...do yourself a favor and get 'Lonesome Dove.' It's hard to say which western is the 'best'...it is after a matter of opnion but 'Dove' is at the top of my all time list. Comes in at around 8 hours I believe. 'Streets of Laredo' is also excellent.
That Duvall/Haden Church thing was somewhat disappointing to me. I think it was after the same feel as 'Open Range' but missed. I had no problem with the actors though. They were all top notched.
