With all the controversy through the ages, and continueing on to this day, over whether or not Benteen should have been blamed for Custer's demise or not. I am interested in other peoples views about what Custer's Cooke's message to Benteen actually means.
In a previous poll here, some of the possible answers were impossible to answer to. Begin your posts with a poll and answer about this subject only;
1) Benteen disobeyed orders. 2) Benteen didn't disobey any orders.
There can be no in between. Either he did or didn't!!

Twomoons- Benteen did disobey orders, no doubt. However, I don't see how he had any choice. He simply could not abandon Reno in the mental state he and his men were in.
Except, he might have left the pack train with Reno and pushed on with his battalion. That way Reno would have reinforcements and ammunition. Benteen could then push on to Custer without the packs (and the badly needed ammunition) and join up with him just in time to be annihilated too! Of course he would die, but then he would avoid the criticism of such revisionists as Xav and Custerstillstands. It would almost be worth it!

Thanks SOACM I appreciate your opinion. The discussion can also include any of Kanipe's "verbal orders" as well. I will try to refrain from comment, unless specifically asked something. And will only comment if I feel that all who have had the opportunity to post, have. Again Thanks.

Two Moon I would have to go along with SOACM at this time,also you could say that Reno being second in command ordered him to remain.
